Protecting Clean Sport: Roles and Responsibilities

In the Paralympic Movement, integrity and fair play are our core values. Every person involved in Para sports in Bangladesh—whether on the field or in the support box—is bound by the World Anti-Doping Code. Understanding your specific responsibilities is the first step toward a successful and clean career.

🏃 For Athletes: Your Body, Your Responsibility

As an athlete, the principle of "Strict Liability" applies. This means you are solely responsible for any prohibited substance found in your system, regardless of how it got there.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Stay Informed: Know and follow all anti-doping policies and the current WADA Prohibited List.
  • Be Available: You must be available for testing at all times (both in-competition and out-of-competition).
  • Strict Intake Control: Take 100% responsibility for anything you eat, drink, or use. "I didn't know" is not a valid defense.
  • Educate Your Doctors: Inform all medical personnel that you are a Para athlete and must not be prescribed anything on the Prohibited List.
  • Check Your Treatments: Ensure any medical treatment or medication received does not violate anti-doping rules.
  • Full Disclosure: Disclose if you have committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) within the last 10 years.
  • Cooperate: You must cooperate fully with anti-doping organizations (like the Bangladesh Anti-Doping Agency) during investigations.

📋 For Athlete Support Personnel (ASP)

This includes coaches, trainers, managers, agents, medical staff, and even parents. You play a critical role in the athlete’s success and are equally bound by the rules.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Rules: Be knowledgeable of the anti-doping rules that apply to you and the athletes you support.
  • Support Testing: Cooperate with Doping Control Officers (DCOs) when your athletes are being tested.
  • Be a Role Model: Use your influence to foster a culture of "clean sport" and discourage the use of performance-enhancing substances.
  • Disclose History: Inform the NPC or International Federation if you have committed an ADRV in the last 10 years.
  • Total Cooperation: Assist in any investigations regarding rule violations.
  • No Prohibited Possession: Do not use or possess any prohibited substance or method without a valid, documented medical justification.

🛡️ Critical Checklist for All Members

  1. Check Your Meds: Use the Global DRO tool to check if your medication is banned.
  2. TUE (Therapeutic Use Exemption): If you have a legitimate medical condition that requires a banned substance, you must apply for a TUE before you compete.
  3. Supplement Warning: Be extremely cautious with supplements. Many contain "hidden" banned ingredients not listed on the label.

Our Promise: NPC Bangladesh stands for "Clean Sport." We are here to support our athletes in navigating these rules so they can compete with pride and honor.
