Classification

Classification is a unique framework used in Para sports to ensure fair and meaningful competition. It minimizes the impact of an athlete's impairment on the race or match outcome, ensuring that victory is determined by skill, fitness, power, and tactical ability—just like in any other sport. While other sports use weight classes (like Judo) or age categories (like marathons), Para sports use Sport Classes to group athletes with similar activity limitations together. To be eligible for a Sport Class through NPC Bangladesh, an athlete must: Have an Underlying Health Condition: This must lead to one of the ten eligible impairments (such as impaired muscle power, limb deficiency, or vision impairment). Meet the Minimum Impairment Criteria (MIC): Each sport has a specific "starting point" for how much an impairment must affect athletic performance to be eligible. Provide Diagnostic Information: Athletes must provide medical documentation from a certified doctor in Bangladesh as part of the local evaluation process.
